17.5 x 14.25 Fleur-De-Lys Fireback - All

Description

The fleur-de-lys has long been the distinctive bearing of the royal family of France. In a bearing as to the origin of which there is much dispute, some authorities maintain that it represents the lily, others that it represents the head of a lance or some such warlike weapon. Taken from an sample found in an old book of ornaments, the pistils of a flower clearly make this fireback a lily fleur-de-lys. Fleur-de-Lys are also associated with the end of a compass which points to the north. Fireback by J. Del Conner. Cast Iron, Made by hand in the USA. 17 1/2 wide, 14 1/4 high, 25 pounds. First introduced in 1993. When you first remove your Fireback from its box, examine it carefully for cracks or other damage. Minor imperfections sand holes, inclusions, dimensional differences are inherent in the casting process. The fireback has been dipped in a water base paint to prevent rust during transportation. This finish is not intended for display. Paint bubbles, bare spots and streaks will wear off with use or can be removed with a wire brush or steel wool.
