New for 2012/13, the Giordana G-Shield line is a collection of garments that combine to form the ideal wet weather kit. The pieces are designed to be low profile and light weight while providing excellent water repellency. G-Shield pieces are ergonomically contoured for a comfortable race fit, but specifically designed using the minimum possible number of panels so that there are fewer seams and less opportunity for moisture to infiltrate. After being cut, the garment panels receive a silicone heat application to their perimeter. When the panels are stitched together, this silicone conforms to fill in the needle punctures, creating a water tight seal against the elements. G-Shield garments are designed to create a water repellent system that will keep the rider warm and dry through even the most extreme wet weather. The G-Shield Jersey, Bib Tight and Bib Short are constructed of Tour material, which receives a special Acqua-Zero treatment that is bonded with the material on a nano level. Acqua-Zero is a unique high stretch nano water guard that is infused into the threads of the microfiber during the manufacturing process. Because the Acqua-Zero is incorporated on a nano level, it has long-lasting durability and will not fade or wash out, even after repeated uses and laundering. In wet weather, normal garments gradually absorb water, eventually soaking and becoming heavy. This compromises the ability of the materials to wick and keep the rider warm.
